Between Ā£100 and Ā£150 it becomes properly useful, though flagship models still pull ahead on aircraft and deep tunnels.
Anker's Soundcore Liberty 5 sits in that band at around Ā£110āĀ£130 as an approximate UK street price, and it is honest about the trade-off.

Read the battery figure twice
Manufacturers quote two numbers, and the difference between them is the case.
The Liberty 5 claims 8 hours in the buds with cancellation on, or 12 with it off, and 32 or 48 hours respectively including the case.
Sony quotes 8 hours in the buds and 24 with the case, cancellation on.
The number that matters is the first one, because that is your commute, your flight or your afternoon.
Fast charging is the underrated line. Anker quotes five hours of playback from a ten-minute charge, which rescues a forgotten evening.
Batteries in earbuds are small, sealed and degrade. Expect meaningful decline by year three regardless of brand.
Four smaller things that quietly matter
Multipoint pairing lets the buds hold a laptop and a phone at once, and switch when a call arrives. Once you have it, its absence is infuriating.
Codec support matters less than the marketing implies. LDAC carries more data than SBC, but only from an Android phone, and only over a good connection.
Water resistance is read as two digits. The first covers dust, the second liquid. IPX4 is splash-proof, IP55 survives dust and a light shower.
Touch controls are a genuine differentiator, and consistently the thing owners complain about most.
