If you wake at three in the morning with a throat like paper, the central heating is doing precisely what central heating does.
Warm air holds the moisture your sinuses used to. A humidifier is a tank, a fan and a sensor, and this is one of the cheaper competent versions of that idea.
The verdict
Buy it for a bedroom or an ordinary living room up to roughly 505 square feet, and buy it for the sleep mode and the two-day tank in particular.
It is discounted often enough that it is worth checking today's price before deciding.
Give it a miss if you will not scrub it by hand each week. That is the genuine catch, and it is set out below.
What it is, and where it sits on price
Levoit is Vesync's air-treatment brand, and the Classic 300S is its entry-level smart humidifier: a cool-mist ultrasonic unit with a 6-litre top-fill tank.
It sits at the budget end of the smart-humidifier bracket, which is unusual for a model that includes a humidity sensor and app control. There are no replacement filters, so the purchase price is close to the whole cost.
That last point is easily underestimated. Filtered humidifiers quietly bill you for wicks every year.

What it does well
Two days between refills, not two nights
Six litres at 300 mL an hour is the arithmetic behind the 60-hour figure. In practice you fill it on Sunday evening and think about it again on Tuesday.
Independent testing puts the realistic number nearer 40 hours at the highest setting, which is still two nights and a day. A 2-litre unit wants refilling every morning.
Under 30 decibels, with the display off
RTINGS scores its noise at 8.9 out of 10, the highest mark it awards this machine. Sleep mode lowers the mist and switches the screen off at the same time.
A glowing humidity readout on a bedside table is a sleep problem of its own. This one goes dark.
The humidity sensor means you can leave it be
Set a target and the built-in sensor holds it, rather than running flat out until the tank empties. Over-humidifying is a real risk โ beyond 60% you are cultivating mould rather than soothing a throat.

The two drawbacks worth knowing
Cleaning is the weak link, and there is no way round it
RTINGS gives cleaning a 6.0. Several parts want hand-washing on a schedule and not one of them is dishwasher safe.
The wide filling aperture helps, but corners remain that your hand does not reach. Owners report limescale and pink mould when it is neglected for a few weeks โ an ultrasonic unit sprays whatever is in the tank into the room.
It humidifies slowly, and hard water leaves white dust
Bringing the same room to the same humidity takes roughly twice as long as Levoit's larger LV600S. If you want a dry room sorted by bedtime, start it in the afternoon.
Ultrasonic units also atomise dissolved minerals, so hard water settles as a fine white film on nearby surfaces. Much of England is hard-water territory, so this is not a hypothetical.

Look elsewhere if you

It sits at the lower end of the smart-humidifier range and is discounted regularly through the autumn and winter. With no filter to rebuy, that price is close to the total cost of ownership.
The exception is hard water. If your kettle furs up, budget for distilled water and the running cost stops being nil.

Questions people ask before buying
How often do you actually have to clean a humidifier?
Weekly for the tank and base, with a deeper descale every two to three weeks in a hard-water area. Skipping it is not a cosmetic matter โ an ultrasonic unit disperses whatever is growing in the water.
The Classic 300S is no worse than most ultrasonic models here, but it is no better either.
Do I need distilled water?
Only if your water is hard, which across much of southern and eastern England it is. Mineral content is what produces the white dust.
Run it for a week on tap water and look at the surfaces nearby. That settles it faster than any spec sheet.
Should I buy this or the LV600S?
Choose the LV600S if you want warm mist or need to cover nearer 750 square feet โ it also humidifies about twice as quickly. Our Levoit LV600S review works through the trade-off.
