What it is, and where it sits
Blueair is a Swedish brand, and the 311i Max sits in the middle of its consumer range. The same machine is sold across parts of Europe as the Blue Pure 3350i Max.
The US list price is $229.99, which places it above the Levoit Vital 200S-P and a long way below anything from Dyson.
It uses HEPASilent filtration, combining a mechanical filter with an electrostatic charge. That charge lets the fan turn more slowly, and the slower fan is why it stays quiet.

What it does well
23 decibels is quieter than the room you sleep in
A quiet bedroom sits at roughly 30 dB. The lowest setting here comes in below that, which is why QuietMark certified it.
At full speed it reaches 50 dB, about the level of a dishwasher mid-cycle. Few people will ever need that setting overnight.

The two drawbacks worth knowing
You cannot switch the electrostatic charge off
Ionising produces a trace amount of ozone. The quantities here are small and fall within safety limits.
Several rivals still fit a switch for it, and Blueair does not. If someone in the house has asthma, that missing switch is the deciding factor.
The carbon layer is thin, so odours get through
Particles are this machine's job and it does that job well. Cooking smells and VOCs are a separate problem it handles poorly.
If odour is your actual reason for buying, choose a unit with a deeper carbon stage.
