Buy this for one bedroom and it is the quietest thing available at the price. Buy it for a living room because the listing says 1,138 ft², and you will be disappointed.
It lists at $139.99 and moves on deal days — check today's price before deciding.
Blueair itself recommends 237 ft². That is about a fifth of the figure in the product title.
Both numbers are real. They answer different questions, and only one of them is the question you are asking.
What it is, and where it sits on price
Blueair is Swedish, and the 511i Max sits at the small end of its consumer range. It was built around a bedroom.
List price is $139.99. That undercuts the Levoit Vital 200S-P at $189.99 and its own larger sibling, the 311i Max, at $229.99.
At 4.2 pounds it is light enough to move between rooms one-handed. Most purifiers this quiet are considerably bigger.

What it does well
19 decibels sits below the noise floor of a quiet bedroom
A quiet bedroom measures around 30 dB. This unit's lowest setting is eleven decibels under that.
In practice you stop noticing it before you fall asleep. QuietMark certified it for precisely this.
Full speed reaches 48 dB. You will not want that setting at 2 a.m., and in a room this size you will not need it.
17 watts is the lowest running cost in its class
Seventeen watts around the clock comes to roughly 149 kWh a year. Apply your own electricity rate to that.
The Vital 200S-P draws 50 watts and the 311i Max 32. This is a third of one and half the other.

The two drawbacks worth knowing

The 1,138 ft² claim assumes a single air change per hour. Blueair's own recommendation is 237 ft², at 4.8 changes.
One change an hour does very little during pollen season. Measure the room and use the smaller figure.
The naming makes this worse. The 311i Max is rated for 439 ft², and the two models are one digit apart.
The carbon layer is thin, and fixing that throws away good HEPA
Particles and odor share one combined filter here, and the carbon share of it is small.
Cooking smells, pets and VOCs will get past it. Blueair's answer is a higher-carbon filter at $77.98 for two.
Swap for odor and you discard a particle layer with months left in it. That is the real cost of the one-piece design.
